By Anonymous Austin, TX February 13, 2004--The Golf Club at Circle C, an 18-hole daily fee public course designed by Jay Morrish in 1992, located in Southwest Austin, announces recent changes to the club including management, food and beverage as well as a new focus on service.
Wally DeRoeck, local Austin entrepreneur, is now the Principal owner of The Golf Club at Circle C, LLP. He has committed himself to returning the club to its former prominence among high-end daily golf courses in Austin.
To carry out DeRoeck’s vision, George “Chip” Gist has been selected to serve as General Manager and Director of Golf. Mr. Gist brings with him over 13 years of experience in the industry including sales, golf course and club management. A member of the PGA since 1993, Gist has served as Golf Professional and Director of Golf Operations at Barton Creek Resort. Gist also served on the Board of the South Texas PGA and created the Lessons Under the Lights program to raise funds for the South Texas Junior PGA Golf Foundation, which will continue at The Golf Club at Circle C.
The club also hired Tina Bradley-Mayers, a Class A member of the PGA, as Head Professional. Her experience includes working with Chuck Cook and her father, Jackson Bradley as well as serving as Director of Instruction at Balcones Country Club and Barton Creek Golf Institute. With head golf professional and instruction expertise, particularly in teaching junior golf, her primary role is to facilitate the golf experience through lessons, clinics and tournaments.
Also hired is Buck Mayers as Director of Instruction, to provide educational opportunities and tools for both adults and juniors. His current client list includes several PGA Tour Professionals and several Division I collegiate players. GOLF Magazine recently voted Mayers a Top 40 Instructor in the Southwest region of the United States. His previous experience includes serving as lead instructor and director of over 30 golf schools and corporate events around the country including Nike, The University of Texas, Baylor University, Big Horn and many others.
To further their commitment to service, the club also hired Denise Fisher to serve as Director of Sales and Marketing. A 15 year veteran of the hospitality industry, she has served in various marketing and management positions with The Pinehurst Company, ClubCorp and Barton Creek Resort. Her experience is primarily in customer relationship management, strategic planning, direct marketing, communications and event coordination specifically for golf clubs.
Along with this experienced leadership, the club has developed an enhanced catering and entertainment program by welcoming Circle C Café and Catering. With Executive Chef Jaime Arevalo, formerly Executive Chef at Barton Creek Lakeside, the club now offers a full menu serving casual to upscale fare with extended hours and the ability to host large events including weddings and business functions.
The intention of The Golf Club at Circle C over the next 12 to 18 months is to raise the level of service and standards offered to members and guests. With changes in ownership, leadership and the addition of full-service catering, the club continues making dramatic improvements to the conditions of the course and the club.
“Our pledge is to restore The Golf Club at Circle C to its former standing as one of the finest daily fee golf courses in Central Texas,” explains Gist. “The commitment is real, and we are looking forward to success.”
